Great DCP tips!

fter completing my college program in Fall 2013, I longed for more ways to connect with my Disney past and keep in in my present and future. After connecting with Elly Collins in a DCP Alumni group, I was excited to hear about her and her sister's experience during their program so I eagerly bought this ebook.
It was such a change to read about someone else's DCP experience. Not only did the Collins girls attend the WDW college program instead of my Disneyland program, but they attended as sisters and roommates which made for a unique experience.
I wish I had found a book like this before going on my program. They cover everything a potential DCP attendee needs to know, and give advice on things to avoid as well. Much appreciated!

I loved this book

I loved this book! It was so charming/refreshing to read this book/blog/advice by two such positive, beautiful and wholesome young women. I do not know a lot about Disney - but I had NO IDEA how much work and planning went into making the MAGIC in Disneyland and Disneyworld! I loved hearing their comments about work ethic, customer service, general attitudes about life, and sharing chores in a crowded apartment. We need more people in this world like Elly and Caroline! I can't wait to see how their next careers turn out - and I look forward to working with Caroline as she does her student teaching! :) Leigh Meinig

Two Girls and a Mouse Tale is good for DCP info, but needs some polish

George: Elly and Caroline Collins sent us review copies of their new book, Two Girls and a Mouse Tale, which is all about their extended Disney College Program (DCP) at Walt Disney World. The two sisters spent the fall and spring semesters in the DCP and blogged about their experiences. They turned the blog/diary into a book with the intent to help students and parents look at the DCP and decide if it would be a worthwhile program.
Jeff: The Disney College Program is a really big deal right now. I feel like now, more than ever, more and more college students are trying to get in, and experience working for Disney first hand. There are countless blogs and message boards devoted to the topic, but it’s kind of hard to find all of the content in the same place about the experience: what the expect, what to bring, what not to bring, how it goes, and so on. Elly and Caroline have solved that problem!
George: The sisters do an excellent job of presenting what you need to do to get into the DCP as well as how you need to think about the experience. After reading Amber Earns Her Ears, I wasn’t sure what to expect since that title left me very cold. Elly and Caroline obviously love Disney and want to share their experiences with the world. They mix the good stuff with the not-so-good stuff to present a fairly eye-opening memoir of their time.
Jeff: Listen, it’s college-age kids, all crammed together in small spaces, not knowing who each other are, and forced to live together. Of course problems will arise and personalities will clash. That’s just life. But it was interesting to me to see how Elly and Caroline gave some tips on how to deal with roommates that aren’t pulling their weight (and how they managed to deal with theirs). I mean, the advice can even go for college dorm mates as well. Their tips and suggestions are extremely helpful, and I can see anyone looking to go into the Disney College Program finding this book invaluable. Having said that, we did take issue with a few things.
George: The girls both write very well, but they would often switch between first- and third-person in the same paragraph, sometimes the same sentence. It made the text very confusing and hard to follow. Along the same lines, they would forget to introduce who was writing a specific section and you have to backtrack to figure out if it’s Elly or Caroline.
Jeff: On a smaller (and nerdier note), we did find several inaccuracies about some Disney facts that were presented. At one point, it was mentioned that the Yeti in Expedition Everest is broken because he was jumping up and down, when it was actually the force of the arm and body movements caused the damage. There was also mention of who created the “4 Keys To Safety” (Dick Nunis, not Walt himself, as mentioned in the book). These small things jump out at DisNerds like us, and make us go “Huh?” There were also some grammatical and spelling errors throughout, so it probably could have used one more editing pass.
George: We don’t think that the negative points we mentioned should turn you against the book, at all. It’s just something that’s important to mention, especially with a very small press title. Professionalism counts. Still, Elly and Caroline offer a lot of great information. They’re very positive about Walt Disney World without being too full of pixie dust.
Jeff: We do think the information you presented is valuable to people who are going into the program. It’s a handy guide, and many people will definitely make use of it. It’s definitely the most comprehensive guide about I’ve seen, and it will be great for folks to have all of the information in one place.
