Educated in the United Kingdom, France, and Canada, he has held a number of senior academic administrative appointments in addition to teaching. He has a PhD in political science from the University of Calgary; is author of Whistling Past the Graveyard: Constitutional Abeyances, Quebec, and the Future of Canada; was a co-editor of Braving the New World: Readings in Contemporary Politics; and is the editor of the first two editions of Canada and the United States: Differences that Count.

A must read for serious MBA candidates

This book was given to me as a gift when I first told my family I was going to get my MBA. Honestly, I let it sit around until I actually started my applications and didn't know what direction to go in with my essays. Reading through this book really helped me to pin-point why exactly I wanted to get an MBA and what made me a unique candidate. After reading through it cover-to-cover, I also kept it handy throughout the process, from essay writing, to recommendation gathering, to preparing for the interview. I applied early to my top choice school, and I got in! The most important take-away from this book is that MBA programs are looking for a diverse class, so it does you no good to focus on your high test grades, good GPA, or stellar work experience. Those stats are already presented in your application. Make sure you highlight what makes you different and unique. I highly recommend this book for all people serious about applying to top, or even mid MBA programs.

Taking the Right Risks and Telling Your Truth

MBA Reality Check is a refreshingly candid and colorful read with excellent pointers for anyone considering applying to an MBA program, grad school, or even college! Evan and David never hesitate to tell the truth and speak to their rich experience with hundreds of clients. So many books offer up a magic formula to writing the "right" essay or crafting the "right" application. Evan and David take an alternate path, one grounded in authenticity rather than posturing. The key to creating an application that will stand out from the pack is to craft an application that is genuine, that comes from a place of honesty, passion, vulnerability. The authors give dozens of examples of students who take the right kind of risks with their essays, and allow the admissions readers to get glimpses of their character, their fears, their deepest desires. Essays like these are innately inspiring, and they simply ring true. Authenticity is powerful!

I have personally broken out my copy of the MBA reality check on multiple occasions to illustrate to students what it looks like to take the right risks in their applications. The book beautifully lays out "before" and "after" examples from a wide variety of students with greatly divergent life experiences. This is incredibly instructive. There is no ideal essay; but there is an essay that goes deeper, that cuts through the marketing into the depth of one's experiences. I use this book to inspire my students- take the risk- put yourself out there. Don't be afraid of letting people in to see your wounds or your deepest desires; that's the most powerful tool you have to recruit and engage others. We're all part of the human team, and we can move and inspire others when we let our true colors shine.

You'll never read another book like this...

This book really worked for me for a lot of reasons. Least important but most interesting was the tone--these guys seem to really enjoy what they do and the book reads like they have a great time doing it. It helps to have a sense of humor when the subject matter is so heavy.

But when it really counts, helping me get into a top program, that's where this book is truly effective. It works because almost every chapter is centered around a real person (or more than one person) who has already gone through the process and has all the same questions and fears that I have right now. Evan Forster writes about his one-on-one experience helping these people like it's a little short story. I found it both engaging and entertaining, but most of all, useful and practical.

The book is in three parts:

I) "Upping your game" in advance of applying (you will find this useful even if you're not applying for another year or two, or frankly even if you're applying for a job).

II) The essays. This part has some of the funniest chapters. I loved how you can read the applicants' personal struggles with the essay topics, how they resolved them, and then finally get to read the actual essay they came up with afterward. That's the best part--seeing how their thinking about the topics turns into an actual essay. I especially loved the "Sadie the Sasquatch" story.

III) After you've submitted the app. This includes waitlist and re-app stuff (hope I don't have to deal with these chapters, so I just skimmed them). Loved the chapter on interview skills.

There are also workbooks in the back that help you organize your thoughts and think about your life/experiences in new ways. Guys, if you read this, make the workbooks available online in PDF format! The only other thing that's missing is information about specific schools or helping you pick the best school for you. They recommend you go online to find that information. (They also said something like, "If you can't figure out how to do the research on your own, then you have no business in a top school in the first place"--I totally agree!)

The bottom line is, I loved this book. I feel a lot calmer now that I've "seen" other people go through the same worries I'm having and ask the same questions. Highly recommended!

This book was Awesome

I loved this book. The two main characters were likable and I liked the whole vampire thing and I ALWAYS hate vampire stories but lesbian vampires... you can't go wrong and she didn't. The action scenes were well written, though what happened to the girls eyes and why she had those white orbs was never really explained if it was I missed it. I do wish the history had been a bit more fleshed out. I kind of felt more like it was a sequel than a first book since somethings were explained in a way that made you feel as if you should have already known it. Otherwise I really look forward to more from this writer and I wouldn't mind paying money for it, this was a very good diversion.

Great Fantasy

I want to tell everyone that I enjoyed this book a lot, much more than I expected to. But it's hard to think of anything interesting to say about it. The world building is exceptional, even though we do not see any setting outside of town. The image of the bad guy as a fundamentalist fanatic is well drawn and perfectly executed. The friendship and eventually love that grows between Elanna and Valia is touching and sometimes tender. Elanna's powers are employed a little bit inconsistently, but maybe I just didn't understand them very well, and I definitely need to read this book again because there is just so much detail that I simply didn't get it all with only one read-through.

This is one of my favorite lesbian fantasy books to read. I bought it three years ago, and I still go back to reading it on occasion. The world of the novel is dark, unique, and just special enough to make me wish there was more of it. This certainly deserves more attention than it's gotten over the years.

He twice received the Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award from the University of South Carolina Union, and has received numerous other awards and nominations for outstanding classroom instruction and advisement. Robb's extensive work with student success programs includes experience with the design and implementation of these programs--including one program that was presented at the International Conference on the First-Year Experience in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He has conducted faculty development keynotes and workshops at over 250 institutions of higher education across America. He has spoken in 42 states and several foreign countries. While the Paris peace treaty temporarily restricted development, after 1950 Bulgaria began a massive rearmament of its combat aviation. By 1955, the Bulgarian Voennovazdushni Sili were the Balkans' most powerful airforce: an advantage retained through the rest of the Cold War. The system's transformation to date winds up the story. The hardback volume illustrated by over 700 quality photographs and aircraft drawings, 32 diagrams and 13 tables remains the sole book covering more than 110 years of Bulgarian combat aviation.

his authoritative and excellent work, written by a Colonel (and still active MiG-29/21 pilot) is from first glance an obviously well researched and quite comprehensive one. As the title implies it is a complete look at, if relatively unknown, history of Bulgarian military aviation development.

It is well illustrated in the Putnam books style with 789 black and white photographs, most of which were new to this reviewer, as well as maps, charts and illustrations all of which compliment the text.

The book not only examines aircraft and pilots that flew for Bulgaria, but those machines which were built and in some cases designed. It also provides the political and social events the formed the Bulgarian aviation arm. The time frame covered is from just prior to the Balkan War in 1912 through to 2010. The section on World War I is replete with its activities as part of the Central Powers, which very little has been previously detailed elsewhere. Of course the inter-war years and WWII are meticulous covered and for those who are interested in this period they will not be disappointed. It is the post-WWII transformation to a Soviet Russian system that is very well documented and provides great insight into the emergence of cold-war politics and activities of an Eastern-bloc nation. The story does not quite end here as the transition to a member of NATO and then European Union, an event inconceivable just a few years prior, rounds out the history.

Particulars of military aviation events in Bulgaria have been obscure for a variety of reasons not the least is the Bulgarian language and the lack of access to primary source material. However in the past 10 years the shift to member of NATO and then in 2007 of European Union material in archives and related information have become more accessible. The author of this book, Dimitar Nedialkov, who is also the head of Air Force Department in Bulgarian Military Academy as a professor Dr.Sc., is well know to the Bulgarian aviation researcher community has begun to bring his talented authorship to the English reading community.

In the case of this book, a comprehensive romp through Bulgarian air power, we are quite fortunate to have a well documented work available in English and written by a Bulgarian who had access to a great deal of primary source material and who thoroughly appreciated the subject matter at hand.
